Résumé
The aim of the study was to identify factors that lead to low implementation of outreach activities in Lusaka urban district. It was hoped that the study could be used to identify areas in the existing service that may be contributing to the Lusaka urban district health centers not carrying out outreach activities as they ought to, so that policies, and programmes could be revisited to ensure maximum utilization of the service. The study was conducted in Lusaka from March to October 1997. The sample size was 50 health workers 20 to 50 years old who were practicing in Lusaka urban district. A self administered questionnaire was used to collect data from the health workers. A stratified random sampling was used to ensure representations of different groups within the study population. The research finding revealed that under implementation of outreach clinics could be due to inadequate knowledge about outreach activities by some health workers who did not train adequately in outreach activities at school and, have had no in-service training in outreach activities after they qualified.
