Abstract
UN/AIDS & WHO recommend case surveillance as part of a comprehensive system of 2nd Generation Surveillance. 2nd Generation HIV Surveillance is designed to help countries: Concentrate SI resources where they will yield the greatest impact; make the best use of existing data to increase understanding of the HIV epidemic and the behaviors that spread it. And HIV case reporting is one of the key components of HIV surveillance.
